Sade Adebowale
Sade ADEBOWALE (b. 1991) is a Nigerian artist influenced by her father, who nurtured her pursuit of art. She earned a BFA in Painting from Tai Solarin University in 2010 and is currently a graduate student at Ladoke Akintola University.
Inspired by the great masters, Sade is dedicated to painting and actively promotes young female artists, challenging stereotypes of gender in art. Her platform aims to empower and encourage more women to join the community.
Using unconventional materials like newsprints, cartons, charcoal chips, and homemade pigments, Sade believes in limitless expression. This inventive spirit began during a school strike, when she lacked access to academic supplies. Her minimalist yet bold charcoal works feature melanin-rich faces of African women and figures, depicting cultural values and the human journey.
Sade has participated in various exhibitions. As an emerging artist enamored with African society, her hope-filled art reflects mankind’s scars and hidden words etched in bodies and streetscapes.
